Details
Its term derives from the Latin and means fruit, in honor of the cult of the Goddess POMONA, protector of all fruits. Ancient legends tell that the pumo, which represents a bud of the Acanthus flower, is a symbol of prosperity and fecundity. Over time it has therefore become an object of good omen, a good luck charm in defense against evil. For this reason it is still made today by Apulian artisans in many versions and colors and can be found on the balconies and cornices of the buildings. There is no authentic Apulian house without a Pumo.
